THE NEW
YORK TIMES BASEBALL PHOTO COLLECTION TO APPEAR IN THE SUNDAY TIMES
BEGINNING JULY 23
Special
Full-Color Action Shots of Yankees and Mets
Will Appear Every Sunday for Six Weeks
NEW YORK, July 19,
2006 – The New York Times announced today that it will insert
photographs of baseball players from the New York Yankees and
Mets teams in the newspaper this summer, beginning July 23. The
six shots, all taken by Times photographers, are stand-alone photos
suitable for framing. They will be placed in six consecutive Sunday
editions of The Times sold at retail locations and delivered to
home delivery subscribers throughout the greater New York City
area. This special series of photo insertions will conclude on
August 27.
The 8" x 10"
color photographs will feature three Yankee and three Mets players
in memorable moments from exciting games. The players highlighted
include Yankee stars Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera and Alex Rodriguez
and top Mets players Pedro Martinez, José Reyes and David
Wright. The photos show the players in a variety of action shots:
leaping over a player from the opposing team (Jeter over Johnny
Damon, then with the Boston Red Sox), sliding into home base (Reyes)
and celebrating a hard-won victory (Wright, with Mets manager
Willie Randolph). Each photo will include a caption written by
a Times sports editor.
“This is a great
opportunity for baseball fans to start, or add to, their own photo
collections,” said Alyse Myers, senior vice president and
chief marketing officer, The New York Times Media Group. “From
spectacular double plays to two-run homers, the photos capture
those moments that made or lost the game, depending on your perspective.
If you love a New York team, you’ll want to have these photos
as a keepsake.”
Additional baseball
keepsakes will be available for purchase by Times readers at a
special rate. Each week there will be a new code that readers
can use to receive 15% discounts off Mets and Yankees merchandise
through the team Web sites, www.mets.com and www.yankees.com.
