The popular MAP is avaailable for free to Atlanta visitors, newcomers and residents and includes an easy to read, detailed map of the metro Atlanta area, plus inset maps of Buckhead, Downtown and Midtown.
Since 1991, The Atlanta Street MAP and Visitor Guide has been a key tool in attracting and assisting metro area visitors. It’s the only Atlanta map given out at the state’s Visitor Information Centers, and can be accessed either on-line at www.mapatlanta.com or through the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and www.georgia.org by those planning their visit to the city.
“According to the annual economic report of the Travel Industry Association of America, tourism expenditures in Georgia were up 7.7 percent in 2005 over the previous year,” said Christopher Huber, president of MAPSouth. “The state of Georgia has implemented its ‘Put your Dreams in Motion’ marketing campaign and the city of Atlanta is reaching out to the Southeast region with its ‘Brand Atlanta’ effort. At the same time, Delta Air Lines is launching new direct flights to and from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. I think it’s safe to say
Atlanta is experiencing an exciting tourism renaissance,” he said.
MAPSouth Publishing distributes one million Atlanta MAPS each year. The Atlanta Street MAP and Visitor Guide can be picked up at over 150 metro hotels and motels, all of the state’s Visitor Information Centers, concierge services, the Atlanta Airport, Post Apartment Homes, local universities, attractions, shopping centers, restaurants, area Convention and Visitors Bureaus and Chambers of Commerce, car rental firms and more. It includes suggested itineraries, discount admission coupons and premiums, MARTA information, a shopping guide, and location and hours of operation for many of the city’s restaurants, attractions, shops and hotels.
“As we look ahead to the summer travel season, we see crowds continuing to pour into the new Georgia Aquarium and the restaurants and shops of Atlantic Station,” said Jon Brasher, vice president of sales for MAPSouth. “Established attractions like the recently expanded High Museum of Art and the Atlanta History Center’s new Centennial Olympic Games Museum make Atlanta an even more popular tourist destination. The MAP is a valuable tool for people coming to see these and the city’s other cultural attractions, since it not only shows where everything is located, but provides valuable discounts,” he said.
“The new MAP features the World of Coca-Cola on the cover,” Brasher continued. “Inside, readers will find information on The Varsity, MARTA, the Mall at Peachtree Center, Hard Rock Café, Stone Mountain Park, CNN, the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, and Underground Atlanta, among many others. Some of these advertisers have appeared in every edition of the MAP since its inception – a total of about 17 million MAPS in the past 15 years. We are also pleased to welcome our newest advertisers, Atlantic Station and Babette’s Café, as well as welcome back Classic Chastain and Mary Mac’s Tea Room.,” he added.
In addition to The Atlanta Street MAP and Visitor Guide, MAPSouth Publishing produces The Charlotte Street MAP and Visitor Guide, The Nashville Street MAP and Visitor Guide, The Cobb/Marietta and Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau Official MAPS and numerous specialty MAPS. The company is headquartered in Decatur, Ga.
