NEW DELHI: Yesterday, we had pointed out how unauthorised 'inserts' — advertising pamphlets stuck into the newspaper — provide unscrupulous elements a 'licence in default' and allow them to make a mockery of the strict regulations governing Indian newspapers. On Mar. 6, after hanging up her prison garb, Martha Stewart will begin the next chapter in what's shaping up as the most memorable comeback story in Corporate America in years. Donald Trump, who is co-producing Martha's version of his NBC prime-time hit The Apprentice, goes so far as to say, "I've gained more respect for her because of the dignity and style with which she has handled all this."

2/24/05 - Ads Embedded in Online News Raise Questions:
Online sites are generating new revenue by steering readers to advertisements when they click on certain words. But when those keywords are embedded in the text of a news article, those sites are generating debate as well. Two months after Forbes.com ended an experiment with such keyword ads, citing unease among its reporters, The New York Post is considering adopting the practice for its site. In the process, the newspaper is raising questions about the ethics of keyword advertising online.

2/24/05 - Whither The Wall Street Journal?:
The Wall Street Journal is not only the best-written, most elegantly edited newspaper to cover business, it may be the best paper period. Because of its immense clout and vast resources -- the Journal might assign half a dozen reporters to the telecommunications beat while The New York Times and Washington Post each have one -- publicists feed it exclusives, sources leak it information and corporate chieftains plead for the privilege of having their cartoon portraits grace Page 1. All of this helps the Journal maintain its competitive edge. Given all of this, it might be hard to believe that The Wall Street Journal is in danger of becoming irrelevant, but it is.

2/24/05 - For the haves, a raft of new magazines:
Greed is not good. We learned that in the recession, if we didn't know it before. But that's not the same as flaunting it if you've got it, which is perfectly okay for folks in the right circles. And now, with the recession having lifted its blanket of gloom, there's a raft of new magazines targeting the flaunt-it-if-you-got-it set. "Conspicuous consumption is back in," says Martin Walker, magazine consultant and principal of Walker Communications, and that's driving the flood of new titles.
